In the upcoming 2014/2015 school year, the first bell will ring for 19,200 students and 2,700 learners at Legnica’s educational institutions. The city is the founding authority for 90 educational and childcare institutions. An absolute majority of young residents of Legnica are educated in these institutions. This year’s budget allocates more than PLN 180 million for expenditure related to schooling, education and childcare. Approximately 2,180 students and 2,600 learners attend non-public schools. The city co-finances their operations with approximately PLN 17 million.

Nearly 3,400 children will receive preschool care and education, the vast majority of them (2,130) using public institutions run by the city. There are 15 of these institutions. Sixteen private preschools operate in Legnica. This year, as in previous years, all parents who wanted places for their children received them. In our city, the current preschool-enrolment rate is 95 percent. The national average is approximately 72 percent.

In terms of numbers, primary schools dominate the structure of Legnica’s education system. More than 5,700 children will study there. The first school bell will ring on September 1 not only for students but also for their teachers and educators. Approximately 1,640 teachers work in Legnica’s educational institutions. The education administration staff consists of more than 860 people.
