The first was Marek Karewicz, a musician and photographic artist specialising in photographs of rock and jazz musicians. He worked with such stars as Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Tadeusz Nalepa, Czesław Niemen and others. He is the author of more than 2,000 record covers.
A wonderful storyteller. He spoke vividly not only about himself and his work, but also about the many bands and people he had encountered. There were many of them in his life, including Karol Wojtyła.
The numerous participants who came to the library for the meeting had the opportunity to hear many anecdotes and officially unknown facts from the lives of these people. A large part of the stories was included in Mr Karewicz’s new narrative book, featuring his photographs, written by Marcin Jakobson and entitled “Big Beat”.
The second guest of the library in Kruszyn was Jerzy Sosnowski, a journalist for Polish Radio’s Trójka, author of “Trójkowy wehikuł czasu”, a literary historian by education, former academic employee of the University of Warsaw, teacher and television journalist who, among other things, created the cultural magazine “Pegaz”. He is the author of several books.
He calls himself a music archivist because, being interested in the music of the 1960s and 1970s, he digs treasures out of the archives—songs by well-known musicians and bands that few people have heard of, very authentic, not yet tainted by electronic sound and unknown to a wider audience.
During the meeting, we heard several of them and were literally left “stunned” with surprise. Jerzy Sosnowski also showed the places where the emerging stars of the Polish music scene began performing concerts.
But Mr Sosnowski also came to Kruszyn to promote his latest book, “Spotkamy się w Honolulu”, about which he said enough to encourage most of the listeners to read it. Both authors answered all the questions from the audience for a very long time and with great patience. They wrote dedications in the books and signed them.
Those attending the author meetings, and not only them, also had the opportunity to view the exhibition “Czesław Niemen” by Marek Karewicz.
