Fifteen artists took part in the jubilee 50th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium. We will be able to admire the results of their month-long work during the post-symposium exhibition, whose opening will take place on Friday, 22 August, during the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival. The exhibition has been planned in a gallery specially built under a dome for this purpose and will be installed in the Market Square.
The artists completed their work at three ceramic plants. Ten sculptors worked at the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works: Joan Poch I Catala from Spain, Yuri Ragazzini from Italy, as well as Ihor Kovalevych from Ukraine, Siraj Saxena from India, Michał Puszczyński, Kazimierz Kalkowski, Piotr Nowak, Marta Kisiliczyk, Bogdan Dobrowolski and Krystyna Gay-Kutschenreiter.
Works by Bolesławiec artists Edyta Orlińska and Mateusz Grobelny, as well as Luce Raggi from Italy, were created at the Artistic Ceramics Cooperative of Artistic Handicrafts.
Evelina Wojtowicz and Ruta Sipalyte worked at the “Manufaktura” Stoneware Factory.
Residents of the city had the opportunity to get to know the artists better during three multimedia presentations held in June in the BOK-MCC conference room. Each symposium participant presented their artistic output and talked about their passions and creative inspirations.
Luce Raggi from Italy presented her work and pieces inspired by Aztec culture and contemporary sociological phenomena, including consumerism. Bogdan Dobrowolski showed his elegant chamotte forms, whose subject was the human figure. In his work, Dobrowolski was often inspired by functional forms. Yuri Raggazini (Italy) showed his organic works, whose forms refer to stones, fired repeatedly and sometimes resembling metal sculptures.
Some of the works created during the symposium have been fired, while others are only now being prepared for firing. “The first large works by Yuri Ragazzini from Italy and Joan Poch I Catala from Spain have already been completed and fired,” says Mateusz Grobelny, the symposium curator. “Michał Puszczyński prepared a very large installation consisting of around twenty metre-high forms. The Italian artist Luce Raggi created an interesting installation in the shape of a paper roll decorated with a Bolesławiec ceramics motif. Ruta Sipalyte from Lithuania and Evelina Wojtowicz, who worked at Manufaktura, created designer works: vessels and sculptures that are ready for firing. I warmly invite everyone to see the entire exhibition in August,” Grobelny adds.
The 50th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium in Bolesławiec is being carried out as part of the ARGINET project, co-financed by the European Union under the Culture programme.
