At the beginning of June, in keeping with a long-standing tradition, a sporting event for young people with disabilities was held at the special school. The following took part in the competition: Zespół Placówek Edukacyjno-Wychowawczych from Lwówek Śląski, Specjalny Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy from Lubań, Warsztaty Terapii Zajęciowej from Lubin, Zespół Szkół i Placówek Oświatowych from Lubin, Warsztaty Terapii Zajęciowe from Bolesławiec, and Powiatowy Zespół Szkół i Placówek Specjalnych from Bolesławiec.
The aim of the competition was to integrate communities of children and young people with intellectual disabilities and provide an opportunity to showcase the motor skills of people with physical disabilities.
The competition was prepared with great care, the events were attractive, and the participants happily overcame obstacles and tested their motor skills. The teachers were supported by young volunteers from a nearby secondary school.
Participants took part in events such as target throwing, tug-of-war, obstacle-course races, tunnel races, and ball rolling. During the sporting events and immediately after they ended, participants could pursue their artistic passions in a specially prepared activity corner, where beautiful artworks were created.
Athletically able competitors competed in three age categories, divided into girls and boys. Five events were held: the 60-metre race, the girls’ 400-metre race, the boys’ 800-metre race, and the long jump.
The best athletes of PZSiPS in Bolesławiec were: Wiktoria Hajde, Natalia Konieczna, Martyna Białowąs, Paulina Klecha, Andżelika Weneny, Marcin Jabłoński, Miłosz Zieliński, Kamil Hajde, Wojciech Machaczka, Aleksander Sarzyński, Iwona Jabłońska, Jakub Pupek, Tomasz Hajde, Elżbieta Kubuś.
The winners were presented with their awards by Major Robert Lisiak and the institution’s director, Zdzisława Woźniak.
The hosts enhanced the competition with a dance routine, performing an Arabic dance. In addition, student Tomasz Bochenek, a winner of many prestigious recitation competitions, performed several poems.
The athletics competition is one of the oldest traditions of Powiatowy Zespół Szkół i Placówek Specjalnych in Bolesławiec. Numerous sponsors help maintain it every year: Starostwo Powiatowe w Bolesławcu, Urząd Miasta Bolesławiec, 23 Pułk Artylerii w Bolesławcu, Kopalnia Gipsu i Anhydrytu „Nowy ląd”, Stowarzyszenie „Wspólna Radość”, a bakery, a confectionery, Maria Orawiec’s grocery store, Fast Serwis s.c.
