The final of the Lower Silesian Safety Competition for Children and Young People “Learning to Live Safely” took place on 30 May in Wrocław. The idea behind the competition, organized by the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Association of Polish Municipalities of the Nysa Euroregion, is to test the practical skills of children and young people related to behaving in situations posing a threat to health or life—both their own and that of third parties.
The competition participants moved through successive stations and provided first aid in staged incidents, such as helping in cases of airway obstruction—choking, burns and hemorrhaging. Their knowledge of monuments and ecology was also tested. They were assessed by professionals: paramedics, police officers and firefighters.
The team from MZS No. 3, consisting of Olga Bajer, Jacek Garmider and Jakub Mazur, won the title of Lower Silesian Champion in Safety Education 2014. What is more, the children were honored with a crystal cup from President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski.
The team’s supervisor was Irena Brożek. Co-organizers and partners of the recurring initiative include the Voivodeship Road Traffic Centers in Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Wałbrzych and Wrocław, GOPR, WOPR, municipal police forces, volunteer fire brigades, the Voivodeship Office for the Protection of Monuments, and the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The competition was held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of National Education.
