– In March and April, we recorded the presence of 192 people. We observe that the vast majority of young people ride bicycles wearing helmets, which is undoubtedly thanks to parents who care about their children’s safety and set a positive example for others by teaching their children safe behavior on the road – says the school’s headteacher Maria Subik.

The following events are planned at the Traffic Town in the near future:

  • April 30 – the District Road Traffic Safety Knowledge Tournament for primary and lower-secondary schools in Bolesławiec County. This year, the practical part will be held at the Traffic Town
  • May 6 – Straż Miejska w Bolesławcu is organizing the “Safer with Us” competition for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade primary school students. The aim of the competition is to develop the ability to observe and assess road situations and make appropriate decisions ensuring the safety of participants themselves and other road users. In practical and completely safe situations, students will be able to test their knowledge and skills concerning behavior on the road. Knowledge of first aid will be tested separately
  • May 9 Ministerstwo Infrastruktury i Rozwoju, Dolnośląski Urząd Wojewódzki and the city of Bolesławiec invite children, young people and adults to an open day at the Traffic Town – the only facility of its kind in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget, implemented under Priority VIII – Transport safety and national transport networks, Measure 8.1 – Road traffic safety, of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2007–2013.

Here is the programme for the open day at the Traffic Town:

  • 10:00–13:00 – the Safe Little One Olympics, organized and conducted by Straż Miejska w Bolesławcu. OBM is an educational and sporting event during which municipal guards will conduct a “little one’s exam” on road traffic rules; there will also be competitions in first aid, ecology and fire safety
  • 12:30–13:00 – a bicycle-riding show performed by lower-secondary school students
  • 13:00–14:00 – competitions testing knowledge of road traffic rules, conducted by police officers. Participants will also complete tasks concerning first aid
  • 12:00–15:00 – a knowledge test: 10 questions for 10 years of Poland’s membership in the European Union, open to all visitors. The questions will be formulated in three languages: Polish, German and English. During this time, the results of the year-long School European Union Knowledge Competition for lower-secondary school students will also be announced.

There will also be leaflets containing the Traffic Town regulations and an engaging illustrated history of the bicycle. The prizes in the competitions were funded by the Secretariat of the National Road Traffic Safety Council.
