On the occasion of International Dance Day, a festival was held at the Forum, featuring two dance studios operating as part of the amateur artistic movement at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre.
The festival began with a flamenco and oriental dance performance by the Oriental Dance Studio, led by Alicja Kowal, and the “Carmen” Flamenco Dance School, led by Magdalena Zientara.
In the first part of the performances, the audience also admired guests—dancers from the Wrocław flamenco dance school “Centro del Arte Flamenco”. The performers were the school’s director, Katarzyna Radułowicz-Persona, as well as Magdalena Sajko, Marzena Gwadera, and Katarzyna Osińska. The artists were accompanied by a trio consisting of Marcin Złotnicki (guitar), Jakub Persona (double bass), and Marcin Spera (percussion instruments).
The students of the “Carmen” Flamenco Dance School performed rumba flamenco (children), “Libertango”—a flamenco dance to Argentine tango music—and tangos.
The Oriental Dance Studio performed dances choreographed by Alicja Kowal. These included a new arrangement of an Indian dance in colourful sari costumes, to music from Punjab, as well as a drum solo featuring isolations of individual body parts, shimmy movements, and drops—rhythmic raising and lowering of the hips to the beat of drums. The studio’s performance concluded with the dance “Fire and Water—Two Elements!”, featuring red and blue fan veils.
An exceptional oriental dance performance was presented by Jamilah—a professional, award-winning dancer who cultivates the tradition of oriental dance in accordance with its finest classical standards. The audience also admired Tatiana, a member of the Dream Dancers troupe.
Oriental dance and flamenco can be learned free of charge at classes at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre.
