Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie organized an Inter-County Volleyball Tournament. Teams from the Lower Silesian and Lubusz voivodeships took part in the competition, held on March 29 at the I LO sports hall.
The home team proved to be the best, defeating the KKS Ren-But Złotoryja volleyball players 2:1 in the final match after an exciting battle (25:18, 23:25, 15:4). The winning team is coached by Krzysztof Mosiądz. MKS Olimpia Kowary finished in third place.
The tournament’s best player was named as Łukasz Krawiec of BTS. The most likeable female fan was also selected—Marta, who received a Nantes cosmetics set funded by Nantes Systemy Nanotechnologii Sp. z o.o., the competition’s sponsor.
The tournament was co-financed by the Bolesławiec County authorities. The cups and diplomas were presented by Bolesławiec County head Dariusz Kwaśniewski, deputy county head Stanisław Chwojnicki and president of Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie Jacek Łuczkowski.
Update
County head Dariusz Kwaśniewski: “It has been less than a year since BTS appeared. We have competed in the third league and came very close to playing in the playoffs for the second league. President Jacek Łuczkowski has done a great job; the players are excellent and motivated. We have just won a major tournament. Until October, we will organize various tournaments together with BTS, and Bolesławiec County will support them. We must maintain this excellent form until the next competitions, which will be held in the I LO hall. It is larger than the ZSOiZ hall, so I hope even more fans will attend, because BTS has already won many supporters.
BTS president Jacek Łuczkowski: “It was a very successful event; all the invited teams showed up. The level was very even—really, anyone could compete with anyone. But we proved to be poor hosts. Legnica, which finished second in our league, left Bolesławiec in fourth place. Szprotawa, which finished second in the Lubusz league, fought for fifth place here. Today we had the opportunity to face the Lubusz league, and the conclusion is that we have nothing to be ashamed of. Tournaments like this show that BTS was not a one-off project. I am grateful to the County for its commitment to volleyball and to the fans for their support.
BTS coach and vice-president Krzysztof Mosiądz: “Although this was a friendly tournament, the team approached it very seriously. We knew the potential of some of the teams we had played during the season, and we knew the competition would be fierce. And that is how it turned out. None of the group matches unfolded from the start as we would have wanted. The beginnings were a little nervous, but with each minute our play looked better, and toward the end of the sets we took control on the court until the final point. Two group victories gave us promotion to the semifinals, where we faced Ikar Legnica. We knew it would not be easy. We were highly motivated from the outset. After winning a difficult first set, we caught the wind in our sails. We also won the second set and ultimately managed to win the entire match 2:0. In the final, we faced Złotoryja. We defeated our opponents fairly easily in the first set. In the second, while holding a lead of a few points, we became too relaxed, which our opponent took advantage of, finishing the set in a deuce. Losing the second set motivated us even more, and we won the decisive third set by a huge margin, 15:4. We are delighted with the victory, especially because for various reasons we played the tournament with a rather depleted and experimental lineup. To conclude, I would like to thank all the players who have worked hard in training and during matches since September. Our wonderful fans also deserve thanks; at today’s tournament and elsewhere, they have represented themselves well, supporting us during the game.
BTS team captain Tomasz Włoszczyński: “We have not let up since the end of the league season; we have trained hard all the time. We were very pleasantly surprised by how strong the teams that came to us were. That makes this victory even more satisfying. Teams that are not unknown came to Bolesławiec—they are the best third-league teams, and two of them are playing in the playoffs for the second league. And we left them behind. The key moment of the tournament was the victory over Ikar. We already knew that nothing could stop us. We entered the final against Złotoryja very tired; you could say it was a match of the living dead. But despite that, we summoned our last reserves of strength and won.
