In December last year, the prosecutor of the IPN Branch Vetting Office filed a motion with the Wrocław Regional Court to initiate vetting proceedings against Andrzej Żurek, a former journalist from Bolesławiec and candidate for the Bolesławiec City Council, who stated in his vetting declaration that he had not cooperated with the state security authorities.

On 7 March, the Wrocław court found that Andrzej Żurek had submitted a false vetting declaration and ruled that he should lose the right to stand for election to the Sejm, Senate and European Parliament for three years, as well as imposing a three-year ban on holding public office. “The court ruled what it ruled. I have nothing to reproach myself for. That is my entire comment,” Andrzej Żurek told us.

In an interview with “Gazeta Wojewódzka,” the former journalist explained: “When I was in prison in the 1980s, they gave me an ultimatum. In exchange for letting me out, they ordered me to sign a loyalty declaration. I signed it, and they turned it into cooperation.”

The ruling is not final.
