The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23, operating with the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec, reports that two people have already died from unexploded ordnance in Poland in 2014. The first of these tragedies occurred on January 13 in Czarnotrzew (Masovian Voivodeship). A 37-year-old man was killed, probably while attempting to disarm a remnant of World War II found in a forest.

The second fatal accident occurred seven days later near Przewóz (Lubusz Voivodeship). An explosion occurred while a private company was clearing the area of explosive remnants. The injured 56-year-old man died despite resuscitation efforts.

Warrant Officer Radosław Mazur, commander of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23, appeals: if we find an object that looks like unexploded ordnance or a dud, under no circumstances should we touch it; we should remember where it is and report the matter to police officers, municipal guards, the fire service, the municipal office or other public administration authorities.

The Bolesławiec EOD Patrol No. 23 deals with removing unexploded ordnance and duds in our area on a daily basis. Every dud or piece of unexploded ordnance is removed within 72 hours (standard response). However, in public places such as schools, roads or construction sites, dangerous objects are removed within 24 hours (urgent response).
