The incident occurred at night in the centre of Bolesławiec. While patrolling the town, community police officers from the local police station noticed a car whose driver suddenly slowed down upon seeing the police car. Through the rear window, the officers saw the man sitting behind the wheel move to the back seat. At the same time, the female passenger took the driver’s seat.

The police officers stopped the car for a check. They quickly established that the person who had previously been behind the wheel was a 23-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. A breathalyser test showed that he had 1.2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

In addition, a check of police databases showed that the man did not have a driving licence. The other two people travelling in the car were sober.

The 23-year-old was detained. Driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated is punishable by up to three years in prison.
