The Parents’ Council operates actively at Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec. “We are trying to raise as much money as possible for our students,” says Kazimiera Kotwica, chairwoman of the school body.
Some of the money comes from enrollment fees, while some is collected independently by the parents. The money is used, among other things, for awards for students (such as the Primus Inter Pares award, or PLN 500 for the best graduate; it has already been awarded to two people: Zofia Lenkiewicz and Rafał Ryżewski), academic scholarships (recipients of Parents’ Council scholarships receive PLN 70 per month), as well as social assistance—for the poorest students (two or three times a year, they receive up to PLN 500).
The council also reimburses part of the travel costs of students who take part in subject competitions or sports events. It gives outstanding high-school students book vouchers and material prizes. It co-finances renovations and the purchase of uniforms and sports equipment.
What is more, the parents co-financed the purchase of an interactive whiteboard, which is an important part of the equipment at the Interactive Science Center “ScienceLab,” operating under the patronage of the well-known popular-science magazine “Wiedza i Życie.” The board cost approximately PLN 8,000, of which PLN 5,500 came from Parents’ Council funds.
The parents of II LO students also financed the creation and installation of a ceramic plaque, which was placed above the entrance to II LO. The original, eye-catching inscription is the work of Zakłady Ceramiczne “Bolesławiec”.
“We have talented young people and an excellent teaching staff. Our children become winners of county, provincial and national competitions,” says Kazimiera Kotwica. “As a parent, I appeal for 1% of your tax to be donated to our school. The money will be put to good use.
In the near future, the school plans, among other things, to increase the number of Parents’ Council scholarship recipients (currently, these scholarships are awarded only to winners of national competitions).

The administration, Parents’ Council and students of II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec are appealing for 1% of tax to be donated (through the Stowarzyszenie Ziemia Bolesławiecka). In the annual tax return, simply enter KRS number 0000163366 and add “For II General Secondary School” in the additional information field. “I would like to sincerely thank Ziemia Bolesławiecka for making available the account to which 1% of tax can be donated for II LO,” says Mirosław Sakowski, head of the school.
