Another edition of the cross-country race “Walk with the Orchestra” (the second stage of the “Zagłębie Miedziowe” Grand Prix of Running) is now history. This year, the main race was held over a distance of 5.6 km, junior high school students competed over 3 km, while primary school pupils had 1,000 metres to cover.
The winner of the main race, just as last year, was Adrian Warzocha (MLKS Sokół Lubin). He recorded a time of 18:40. A total of 152 competitors took the start, including 109 in the main race. Thanks to the entry fees donated to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, PLN 1,206.40 was raised.
There was also a delicious refreshment, funded by the Gminne Centrum Kultury in Warta Bolesławiecka. The excellent goulash soup was prepared by Bożena Zaremba and Aneta Piwowarska. The event was supported by Piekarnia Familijna in Warta Bolesławiecka and Zakład Wyrobów Gumowych in Iwiny. Regionalne Centrum Sportowe in Lubin, the coordinator of the Zagłębie Miedziowe Grand Prix, was involved in organising the event. However, the main burden of preparing and conducting the race fell on young people associated with the Uczniowski Klub Sportowy “Tukan” Iwiny.
Dariusz Pachnik, Tukan’s coach, also thanks photographer Janusz Lech, formerly a resident of Warta Bolesławiecka and now of Chocianów. Detailed results can be found on www.maratonypolskie.pl.
