– The museum is another historic building in the city that required essential renovation work and is now regaining its former glory – says Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.

The modernization of the Museum of Ceramics building at 13 Mickiewicza Street is being carried out as part of the “Via Fabrilis – a Route of Craft Traditions II” project, which continues a project of the same name implemented in 2008–2009.

The project partners are the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec and the Museum of the Karkonosze National Park in Vrchlabi. Funding comes from the Czech Republic–Poland 2007–2013 Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme. The total project value is €501,530.87, with the Polish side accounting for €278,614.71.

It is worth recalling that the construction work being carried out in the museum building includes renovation of the roof and façade, replacement of the electrical, fire-protection and sanitary systems (central heating and water and sewage systems), as well as adapting the attic for storage rooms and a conservation studio.

The professional conservation studio will make it possible to restore and reconstruct craft products made of ceramics, glass, metal and other materials. In addition to renovating the building, the project also includes activities aimed at activating centres continuing traditional handicrafts – museums, production facilities and others – which could present their offerings to tourists from Poland and the Czech Republic as part of the route.

Workshops, exhibitions, conferences and cultural events are planned in cooperation with all project partners, along with the creation of a joint offering aimed at various target groups. The project will be promoted on both sides of the border, including through the publication of guidebooks, leaflets and other promotional materials, as well as various gadgets related to craft traditions.
