In the first match of the return round, the players of Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie faced Ikar Legnica on their home court. After a very tense match, the Bolesławiec team narrowly lost 2:3 (23:25, 25:21, 25:15, 23:25, 14:16). Our team is coached by Krzysztof Mosiądz.
Update
The first set was very even. Both teams fought point for point. Neither managed to build a significant lead, and the outcome of the set was decided in its closing stages. Ultimately, the Bolesławiec team lost the opening set 23:25. In the next set, however, they responded to the Legnica side and confidently won 25:21.
In the third set, Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie dominated their opponents. Our team built a substantial lead and never relinquished it for the rest of the set. We won 25:15.
After such a convincing set win, it seemed that the next one would be merely a formality. Instead, the team from Legnica levelled the match and forced a tiebreak, whose outcome was determined mainly by our team’s unforced errors. The Bolesławiec players were not helped by their early 5:1 lead in the set. The number of errors, resulting partly from fatigue, decided that the visitors narrowly won the set 16:14 and the entire match 3:2.
That does not mean, however, that the Legnica side were better. As BTS president Jacek Łuczkowski told us, fine margins decided their victory. On our forum, Fraglesowa wrote: “For me, you are still the winners; thank you for that fight and commitment! You were great to watch.”
Comment by Krzysztof Mosiądz:
It is difficult to identify one specific reason for losing the fourth set. After an easy win in the third set, it is possible that the team believed in success too early and assumed there would be no problem in the next set. I was worried about this set from the start. Sometimes an easy win is followed by a moment of relaxation. We started making more errors and failed to finish rallies on the first attack. This was especially the case at decisive moments—in the closing stages of the set. The opponent, who had nothing to lose at that point, put up strong resistance, took advantage of the opportunity and won.
We lacked luck and effectiveness, especially in the closing stages of the sets. At some moments, we could not hold on to the leads of several points that we had worked hard to build. We are most disappointed about the fifth set, which we started well and which looked very promising for us. When we were on a roll, the match was unnecessarily stopped twice, which in my opinion had a huge impact on its result. In this way, our opponents received two free timeouts and gained momentum.
The result itself is disappointing, but we won one point. Despite our second defeat against Legnica, we showed a different game than in the first meeting. There was fighting spirit and a desire to play. I am pleased that the team’s performance is looking better and better from match to match. That is a good sign for the future. Both teams provided a two-hour, high-level volleyball spectacle that delighted the large audience in attendance.
The match was enhanced by a performance from Michał Jurasik, a breakdance dancer from Bolesławiec. In their next match, our volleyball players will travel to face the team from Żmigród. The match will take place on 14 December.
