Anastazja Pustelnik of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love in Kraków met in Bolesławiec with readers eager to learn the secrets of her cuisine. The women who came to the meeting also exchanged ideas for various dishes with the Jesuits’ cook.

There was lively discussion about how to bake the perfect sponge cake and whether a cake needs to be “thrown” after baking to make it fluffy. Participants exchanged useful advice. According to one of the women attending, to give Christmas beetroot soup a beautiful red color, the beets should be cooked with a little sugar.

Sister Anastazja listened with interest to what the readers had to say. During the conversation about healthy food and the best products, she advised buying vegetables and meat from sellers they knew.

“A familiar seller will advise a regular customer against buying a poor-quality product,” the sister said, sharing her experiences. “It is best to get vegetables from your own garden or from a gardener we know.”

At the meeting with the sister, visitors could try cakes baked specially for the occasion from her recipes. The readers enjoyed banana cake, chocolate-and-cherry sponge cake, and ptasie mleczko.
