Boleslawiec.org has obtained plans for the redevelopment of Bolesławiec Cultural Center. Renovation is necessary because the building does not meet fire safety standards and the Fire Service is threatening to close it. In the cinema auditorium alone, the seats must be replaced immediately and the wood paneling and ceiling panels removed.

Only Forum cinema is to remain on the site of the existing cultural center. A new BOK building will be erected in place of the current building. In addition, another building will be added for the Municipal Public Library and Regional Information Center, along with an amphitheater.

The new building will have three floors and consist of numerous rooms. Studios will be prepared for visual arts, ceramics, stained glass, printing, music with a recording studio, and photography and film. A dance hall with ancillary facilities, a theater rehearsal room, and a computer studio will be built. The plans also include a concert and dance hall, a theater hall, and a double conference room. The largest dance hall will have an area of 115 m². The conference room can be divided into two sections, while the theater hall will have seating for 115 people.

The new BOK will also have a gallery, a buffet, staff facilities, and offices. An amphitheater will be built in the inner courtyard.

The designs were prepared by the Archico Design Studio S.C.

Readers' opinions

The idea isn't bad, but would that awful wagon disappear from the podium?

Patinaszek, Bolesławiec

I would suggest giving up on the amphitheater. We already had two: one rotted away, and the other is in the park on the hill, where vagrants hang around. Now there will be a third one in the courtyard. Meanwhile, the boulevard along the Bóbr is still useless. There is nowhere to hold, for example, a large concert.

It would be wonderful, but what about a new indoor swimming pool? If it weren't for the Germans in the 1930s, there would still be nothing here today.

It looks beautiful in the plans, but is it actually feasible? A beautiful cultural center like that would be useful, because the one we have is a laughingstock. There is nowhere to organize decent events. Nothing happens in our city. It is boring and empty.
