At the request of a group of councillors and representatives of the Bolesławiec sports community, it was decided to honor the memory of Stanisław Merdas by naming the city stadium in Bolesławiec after him.
Stanisław Merdas was a distinguished teacher and athletics coach in Bolesławiec. From 1950, that is, from the time he began working at Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec, he became a great promoter of athletics and sport among schoolchildren. He organized school and interschool competitions, trips to district and provincial events, and, after MKS Bolesłavia was established, also trips to national and international competitions. He coached many medalists of the Polish Championships in various age categories.
