An online database has been opened containing descriptions of the situations of families and people living in poverty through no fault of their own. From this database, you can choose a family or person for whom you will prepare a Christmas gift—a form of assistance responding to their specific needs.
To mark the opening of the online database, volunteers and supporters of the Noble Gift Package project marched through Nowogrodziec Market Square on 16 November. The following day, some of the SuperW volunteers from the Nowogrodziec municipality, together with the Volunteer Team from Kamienna Góra, carried the project flag to the summit of Śnieżka. The events organized are intended to encourage people to become Noble Gift Package Donors—that is, people who choose a family from the online database and prepare a Christmas gift for it.
Thirteen volunteers became involved in the project in the Nowogrodziec municipality, meeting families in need from our area. “Meetings with a family are truly incredible. They are accompanied by powerful emotions, beginning with disbelief and sometimes even shock caused by the material situation encountered, and ending with great respect and admiration,” says volunteer Aneta Potoczna.
Twenty-seven families have been included in the project. Some of them have already found their Donor, but more people who can change their lives are still being sought. “Despite their difficult situation, families share what they have with others. They are also generally very modest. They rarely ask for anything, and when they do, it is usually for basic things such as food, cleaning products or warm slippers. Families have become so accustomed to the ‘poverty’ in which they live every day that they do not even think they could have things that are now often considered standard,” the volunteer adds.
How to become a Donor? Simply visit the Noble Gift Package websiteand go to the “I choose a family” section, where you can read descriptions of the families’ situations and their needs. It is worth inviting friends and family, because together it is easier to prepare a package that will provide real assistance and inspire change.
Entire social groups often become Donors: employees of companies, institutions or schools who organize collections together with parents and students. A volunteer caring for the family, who keeps in regular contact with the Donor, will be helpful during the preparations. The completed package should be delivered on days 7–8 to the warehouse that will be organized in the Village Hall in Zebrzydowa. From there, volunteers will deliver it to the family, and the Donor will receive an extraordinary gift—a report from the presentation of the package.
