The official opening of the Traffic Town, one of 21 such facilities in the country, took place on Friday, 22 November, at Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 on Bielska Street in Bolesławiec. Among those attending the ceremony were Marcin Piwowarski from the Ministry of the Interior, Lower Silesian Voivode Aleksander Marek Skorupa, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman and his deputies: Iwona Mandżuk-Dudek and Kornel Filipowicz, Chair of the Bolesławiec City Council Józef Pokładek, Deputy County Governor Stanisław Chwojnicki, Chair of the Bolesławiec County Council Karol Stasik, head of the Jelenia Góra WORD Robert Tarsa and his deputy Roman Kuty, as well as city and county councillors and directors of educational institutions. Marcin Piwowarski, Aleksander Marek Skorupa and Piotr Roman cut the ribbon.

The application submitted by the Bolesławiec Municipal Commune, prepared by Gymnasium teachers, received the highest score and won the nationwide competition for the location of the “We Are Building Traffic Towns” project, announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in April 2011.

The aim of the investment is to promote proper road-traffic behaviour among children and young people and increase road safety, as well as to provide opportunities for professional training of children and young people and for conducting bicycle-card examinations.

The investment was carried out under Priority VIII – Transport safety and national transport networks, Measure 8.1 – Road safety, of the 2007–2013 Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget.
