During earthworks on Friday at the Tesco construction site, an excavator operator came across an underground fuel tank. The tank was located by the fence separating the construction site from Gałczyńskiego Street. Construction workers alerted the Bolesławiec fire service about the potentially dangerous discovery.

Firefighters determined that the tank contained water and a petroleum-based substance. The underground fuel tank had a capacity of approximately 5,000 litres. There were about 800 litres of the dangerous substance; the rest was water. The petroleum-based substance was pumped out. Water was pumped into the tank in its place.

Workers at the local construction site say this is not the first time they have found something dangerous in the area. A month earlier, on the other side of the site, they came across unexploded ordnance from World War II during earthworks. Sappers were called in to help.
