The Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec invites you on September 14 (Saturday) at 4:00 p.m. to the Department of City History building at 14 Kutuzowa Street for the ceremonial conclusion of the “Preserving from Oblivion – Siberian Exiles” project.
The project was carried out by Municipal Middle School No. 2, named after Poles Deported to Siberia, in cooperation with the Bolesławiec Circle of the Association of Siberian Exiles and the Department of City History of the Museum of Ceramics. The honorary patronage of the initiative was assumed by the mayor of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman, and the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. The project's main aim was to collect, preserve and popularize knowledge about the fate of Poles deported to various regions of Russia and, more broadly, to learn about the history of the people who created our Little Homeland.
The meeting with members of the Circle of the Association of Siberian Exiles will be accompanied by the promotion of a publication entitled “We Had No Childhood. Memories of Bolesławiec’s Siberian Exiles.” The biographies included in the book concern the deportation experiences of people who returned from the “inhuman land.” All the stories are unique and extraordinary, as they were collected and compiled by very young people who, for the most part, encountered the history of the deportees for the first time.
Eighteen teachers and 121 primary, middle and secondary school students were involved in preparing the publication. During the ceremony, awards will be presented to the authors of the most interesting biographies and to the project supervisors.
The project is being carried out as part of the nationwide initiative European Heritage Days 2013, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
