During the recent summer holidays, 135 children from the city and Bolesławiec County spent their time at three summer-camp sessions at the “Barka” Camp Centre in Jarosławiec. The camps focused on integration: children with disabilities spent their holidays together with children without disabilities. The holiday programme was organised by the Municipal Board of the Friends of Children Society in Bolesławiec. The subsidies provided major support:
- from the Bolesławiec City Office
- from the Bolesławiec District Office
- from the KGHM “Polska Miedź” Foundation.
Around 70% of the children and young people received funding towards the camp costs. The amounts ranged from PLN 400 to PLN 800. Thanks to very good cooperation with MOPS in Bolesławiec and GOPS in Warta Bolesławiecka, 24 children received substantial or full subsidies towards the cost of their holiday.
Camp life was organised by an excellent team of experienced educators, led by: Grażyna Wężyk (session I), Malwina Kliszcz (sessions II and III). The camp programme was very rich; the children had plenty of attractions and spent time taking part in interesting activities and events.
Each session included trips to the Hobbit Village, a boat cruise on the sea and a yacht cruise on Lake Wicko. The camp participants used an indoor swimming pool and an Orlik sports field, and also visited a rope park.
The children explored the nearby area and, regardless of the weather, spent plenty of time on the beach, swimming in the sea under the supervision of lifeguards. The campers also took part in activities with a cultural animator and a dance instructor. They watched circus performances. The camp also held events that were very popular with the children, including bonfires, Neptunalia, the Fools’ Parade, camp weddings, camp beauty-pageant elections, the Fair of Wonders, a sand-sculpture competition, karaoke, an art competition and discos.
For years, the organisers have placed a very strong emphasis on the safety of the campers. The rules for staying at the camps and the regulations are discussed, repeated and enforced many times. Thanks to the responsible educational work, all the children returned from camp healthy and happy.
