Members of the Youth Fire Brigades from Nowogrodziec and Gierałtów attended a recreational and training camp in Niesulice, Lubusz Voivodeship. MDP Nowogrodziec on the initiative:

The idea itself was born in February this year. The entire organization, gathering information, preparing the budget, plan and schedule of activities kept us awake at night, so many nights went sleepless. A detailed cost analysis, including attractions for the children, led us to seek help through the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec. We managed to obtain funding from the State Fire Service and the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. We also applied for and received financial support from the Municipality and City of Nowogrodziec and the Mayor of Nowogrodziec, Roberta Marka Relicha, for which we sincerely thank everyone.

The camp lasted a total of 11 days. Nowogrodziec MDP: – We began each day with morning exercises, which helped some participants wake up, but certainly gave them more energy for the rest of the day.

The program also included classes on first-aid principles, cardiopulmonary resuscitation exercises, training on interior fires and the construction of suction lines.

The young firefighters:

On the fifth day of our stay, we invited guests from the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec: the District Commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, Senior Brigadier, MSc Eng. Andrzeja Śliwowskiego, Senior Firefighter, MSc Alicję Piffer-Bawół, and Senior Section Commander, MSc Eng. Krzysztof Kaczyński.

A three-hour training session was held. We learned what requirements must be met to join the State Fire Service, how to operate a radio telephone, and what specialist groups operate in our country.

The Nowogrodziec firefighters sum up:

The campers learned how to prepare meals, keep their rooms and wardrobes tidy, use sanitary facilities, cooperate and live in a group, maintain personal hygiene and culture, correctly use numerous terms, be systematic, respect others, provide first aid, throw a lifebuoy and rescue line, perform drills and more.

In addition to experiences and memories, the children gained a wealth of valuable knowledge that will be useful not only in the Youth Fire Brigade, but also in life. You never know who may need help or when. But we do know one thing: thanks to this camp and the commitment of the supervisors, the children know how and where to call for help, and are able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation themselves. Limiting the children’s access to phones and the internet also proved to be an excellent idea, allowing them to focus as much as possible on their free time and activities.

They also add:

It is worth emphasizing that all the supervisors devoted their private time to looking after the children during the trip and worked as volunteers while training the participants.
