Officers from the Criminal Division of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters arrested two men suspected of stealing fuel from tractor-trailers. The arrests took place in the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality. In the car driven by one of the men, police officers found two empty plastic canisters, a rubber hose and a pry bar.
The arrested men are 21 and 26 years old. They are residents of the Nowogrodziec municipality. Police findings indicate that both committed thefts and burglaries, stealing diesel fuel from tractor-trailers. The suspects operated in Bolesławiec County and a neighboring county. The men most often drained the fuel directly from tanks or fuel lines into plastic canisters and then sold it.
Based on the evidence collected, police officers proved that the arrested men were responsible for seven such incidents, which took place in 2012 and 2013. The thieves stole more than 2,000 liters of diesel fuel. Officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case. Among other things, they are checking whether the arrested men have committed other similar offenses. Theft is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, while burglary carries a sentence of up to 10 years.
