– We are changing the lighting system for the historic monuments located inside our church. After so many years of conserving works of art, we now need to illuminate the Basilica’s interior properly and show it in all its glory to tourists and pilgrims. It is, after all, the most valuable sacred cultural site in our town and the surrounding area. We obtained €167,500 for this purpose, while the value of the EU funding is €142,375 – said Fr. Prelate Andrzej Jarosiewicz to “ii” in mid-July this year. Fr. Prelate Andrzej Jarosiewicz, the church’s curator.

An organ music concert inaugurating the illumination of the interior of the Bolesławiec Marian Basilica took place on Sunday, 28 July. Musicians from the Diocese of Legnica performed: Fr. Łukasz Kutrowski and Fr. Kamil Szymczak. The programme included works by J.S. Bach and Léon Boëllmann.

Those attending the ceremony included Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman and municipal officials, as well as Fr. Andrzej Glombitza, parish priest of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Leutersdorf, which was a partner of the Bolesławiec Marian Basilica in this project.

“This project is exceptionally unique. Usually, the beneficiaries of the Poland–Saxony Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme are public institutions that have teams of people at their disposal and experience in this area. We, as the Municipal Commune, are making use of this programme. And I must stress that it is not easy,” Piotr Roman said during the ceremony (the Municipal Commune supported the Basilica’s activities; as Fr. Jarosiewicz himself emphasized, Tomasz Gabrysiak, head of the City Development and Promotion Department, “paved the way for both parishes”). “I think that both Jerzy Leonard Weber and his pupils, who built the Basilica’s Baroque high altar nearly 300 years ago, would be very proud today.”

The project entitled “Protection, Provision of Access to and Promotion of Sacred Monuments in the Cross-Border Bolesławiec–Leutersdorf Area” is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Poland–Saxony Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme 2007–2013.
