Officers detained a 20-year-old resident of Bolesławiec municipality suspected of fraud and extorting at least PLN 10,000. The detainee had been carrying out his scheme from mid-May to mid-July this year. During that time, he committed 12 frauds at one of the scrap metal collection points in Bolesławiec.
The scenario was the same each time: at the collection point, the 20-year-old received a slip stating the weight and type of scrap metal he had handed over. Then, at the payment counter, the fraudster presented a different slip, containing falsified information about the material and its quantity. In this way, he extorted at least PLN 10,000.
Moreover, officers found additional slips in the 20-year-old’s car that were intended for use in further crimes. The suspect was taken into police custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
