Last Thursday, the 49th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium in Bolesławiec officially came to an end. Its culmination was the opening of the exhibition Edyta Orlińska – My Cities. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts who has been associated with Bolesławiec for many years, she presents a series of ceramic paintings. The inspiration for their creation came from maps—the outlines of cities with which the artist is connected artistically and emotionally. Strong in relief, substantial and expressive in form, the objects bring to mind motifs of structures from ocean floors, rocks and fossils. The series of eight reliefs includes the following cities:

  • Szczekociny – her hometown
  • Kielce – the city where her artistic and ceramic awareness was first shaped—studies at the State Secondary School of Fine Arts
  • Wrocław – the city where she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts
  • Isny and Halle/Germany – cities where she pursued studies abroad
  • Wałbrzych – the city where she created porcelain decoration designs, in cooperation with the Wałbrzych Graphic Works “Kalkomania”
  • Kamenz/Germany – the partner city of the “People from the City” symposium
  • Bolesławiec – the city where she currently pursues her artistic work.

The mosaic of cities thus forms a kind of autobiographical record of the artist. The exhibition also features the “Piony” and “Transformacja” series, made from chamotte and stoneware clay. Like the ceramic paintings, these forms are built with relief, which strongly contrasts with the smooth surface of the works. The artist’s use of various ceramic masses in relief work demonstrates the diversity and qualities of the material—clay. We invite you to visit the exhibition until 15 August 2013.

At the opening, we said farewell to the participants of the 49th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium, who had completed their creative work at the ceramic plants in Bolesławiec. Throughout June, they brought their artistic visions to life there. We will not have to wait long for the results of their work: in just two months, during the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival, an exhibition of the works created during the symposium will be held.

The 49th International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium in Bolesławiec is carried out as part of the ARGINET project, co-financed by the European Union under the Culture programme.
