The Municipality of Bolesławiec signed an agreement with the Association of Polish Municipalities of the Neisse Euroregion for co-financing the implementation of the project entitled “The Historical Heritage of the Napoleonic Era in the Silesian-Lusatian Borderland” as part of the Joint Small Projects Fund Poland–Saxony 2007–2013.

The project’s main aim is to build a sense of connection and eliminate mutual prejudices between the communities of the border regions of Silesia and Lusatia, to make both sides aware of their close socio-political ties in the past and of life within a shared historical and cultural space in relation to the Napoleonic era.

The project is intended to disseminate knowledge among the communities of the cross-border area about elements of the history and cultural heritage shared by Silesia and Lusatia in relation to this era. By using attractive and accessible forms of communication, the project will help deepen residents’ knowledge of the culture and past of the region and raise awareness of the shared culture of the Polish-German borderland. Such awareness promotes the integration of the cross-border society and identification with the broadly understood region located on both sides of the border.

The project activities will result in the publication of a work devoted to the historical heritage of the Napoleonic era in the Polish-German borderland (Silesia and Lusatia), as well as the preparation and staging of an educational historical performance based on these themes, to be performed outdoors in Bolesławiec, along with genre scenes depicting the everyday life of the inhabitants of that period.

The project “The Historical Heritage of the Napoleonic Era in the Silesian-Lusatian Borderland” is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by state budget funds with the support of the Neisse Euroregion. The project will be implemented in cooperation with Römisch-Katholische Pfarrei Mariä Himmelfahrt in Leutersdorf. The project implementation period is from 1 June to 30 September 2013. The total value of the project is EUR 17,240, of which 85%—EUR 14,654—is co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, 10%—EUR 1,724—from state budget funds, and 5%—EUR 862—from the own funds of the Municipality of Bolesławiec.
