The exhibition will open on 22 March 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the building at 14 Kutuzowa Street. The exhibition is the result of research conducted by members of the foundation in towns and villages throughout Bolesławiec County in 2012. During numerous interviews and meetings with residents, they managed to collect materials presenting the richness of the traditions of these lands. These are mainly handicrafts, but also literary and musical works. The exhibition is also complemented by archival materials, mainly photographs.
The exhibition highlights a characteristic regional trend—the interweaving of traditions from many regions of Poland and even Europe is clearly visible here. The people who settled in the Bolesławiec Region after the Second World War came, among other places, from the territories of present-day Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and France. They brought with them not only material objects, but also customs that they strive to preserve. Memories of their roots are reflected, among other things, in the work of amateur artists active in the area.
The exhibition will also feature the documentary film “Sounds of Memories,” summarizing the results of the research. It will additionally include multimedia presentations, photo shows, and audio and video recordings containing, among other things, excerpts from interviews with amateur artists living in nearby towns and villages.
