Last Sunday, on the stage of Forum, Wrocławski Teatr Dla Dzieci performed a production based on Michael Ende’s fairy tale “Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver.” The performance was received by the Bolesławiec audience just as enthusiastically as the earlier production “Peter Pan and the Pirates,” staged at Forum on December 6.
The fairy tale conveyed a meaningful message about the need for diversity in life, the power of children’s imagination, love and friendship, and the fact that having fewer things can bring more joy than having too many. In the land of Trochania, where the adventure of the black Jim Button, Luke the Engine Driver and Emma the Locomotive begins, there was a little of everything, because this enabled the inhabitants to notice and appreciate what they possessed.
“When there is a great deal of something,” said the king of Trochania in the fairy tale, “it is difficult to see the most important things.”
The performance by the Wrocław theatre was an extraordinary artistic experience. Once again, the artists delighted the audience with colorful, rich and imaginative sets. Thanks to them, viewers traveled through mountains, deserts and oceans together with the story’s characters.
The performance attracted considerable interest. The artists performed twice for nearly 800 viewers. Many people encouraged by the earlier production came for a second time to enjoy a theatrical feast on the stage of Forum Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury-Międzynarodowe Centrum Ceramiki.
