An outdoor exhibition celebrating 65 years of Polish animation has been installed in front of the Forum cinema. The exhibition is accompanied by a special programme of the best Polish animated films prepared for the youngest viewers. On Saturday, March 9, at 12:15 p.m., viewers will be able to watch “Bolek and Lolek’s Great Journey”.

The film tells the story of two boys who take on the challenge of travelling around the world like Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in Eighty Days”. In accordance with Fogg’s last will, the person who repeats his feat will receive a prize of £20,000 in gold.

Jeremiasz Pitsbury, Lord Fogg’s servant and Phileas’s descendant, sets out after the boys. His task is to prevent them from winning the prize, but during the journey he befriends Bolek and Lolek.

It is worth remembering that Bolek and Lolek are 50 years old. The first films featuring them were produced at the Studio of Animated Films in Bielsko Biała in the 1960s. More about the history and present-day state of Polish animation can be learned from the outdoor exhibition in front of BOK-MCC.

The exhibition presents profiles of animation masters as well as frames from well-known films and short animated series. An interesting technical novelty is that QR codes have been placed on the boards featuring selected films. After scanning them with a mobile phone, visitors can watch a film clip on their phone.

The exhibition will be open until March 22. At the end of the Polish animation programme, on March 16, a collection of the best-known cartoons from the Studio of Animated Films in Bielsko Biała will be shown, including “The Abduction of Baltazar Gąbka”, “The Adventures of Captain Kliper” and “Reksio”. Gifts (books) will be raffled among people who purchased passes for the programme at the beginning of March. Tickets for screenings cost only 8 złoty. Details are available on the Forum cinema website.
