From April 2013, 5 new Koleje Dolnośląskie trainsets will appear on routes in our province. Electric multiple units (EMUs) will operate on the Wrocław–Węgliniec section (via Legnica and Bolesławiec). Reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h, the EMUs will be the fastest regional trains in Lower Silesia. Below, we present a video prepared by NEWAG/Outstanding Studios:
Travel time from Wrocław to Węgliniec will be reduced by 25 minutes. The journey from Wrocław to Legnica will take 11 minutes less, while the trip from Wrocław to Bolesławiec will be 20 minutes shorter. The average speed of the new EMUs (including time spent braking, stopping and accelerating at stations) will be approximately 90 km/h.
The journey will become faster and more pleasant: passengers will be able to enjoy air conditioning. The train interior will be soundproofed and equipped with comfortable, ergonomic seats. Wireless Internet will also be available on board. Travelers will not have to worry about safety, as the trainset will be monitored. All carriages have been adapted for people with disabilities.
The new unit will have 212 seats, approximately 25 more than the traditional electric trainsets currently in service. Another new feature is a passenger-counting system, which will provide more accurate data on passenger numbers on individual services, making timetable planning easier.
The new trains cost more than 100 million złoty, 82 percent of which came from the Regional Operational Programme for the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for 2007–2013. The remainder was contributed by Koleje Dolnośląskie.
