Another article Violetta Król from the “Dobry dietetyk” practice discusses how to combine a diet with appropriate exercise to stay healthy and have an excellent figure.

During physical exertion, the body does not burn very many calories. Twenty minutes of riding a stationary bicycle results in the loss of approximately 100 kcal, which is roughly equivalent to the calorie content of one glass of milk. Several dozen minutes spent at the gym allows you to burn only half a chocolate bar.

The energy balance therefore does not look encouraging, which is why most people who exercise do not eat after training, claiming that they “do not exercise in order to eat.” According to dietitians, this is a mistaken belief.

We eat after training so that we do not become flabby

Physical training is stressful for the body. It disrupts the process of internal equilibrium. As a result of intense exertion, the breakdown of bodily proteins intensifies. This leads to serious strain on the structure of muscle tissue. After every training session, the muscles are significantly depleted of muscle glycogen and amino acids.

A post-workout meal not only makes it possible to rebuild losses in the muscles, but also to significantly increase their reserves, as a result of which the regenerated body becomes firmer.

People who exercise sometimes mistakenly believe that after training the body does not store fat. From a physiological point of view, this is illogical. It can be compared to a situation in which, being very hungry, after receiving money we do not buy a meal but deposit the money in a bank.

Skipping a meal after strenuous training contributes to halting progress in weight loss. Over time, it leads to highly unfavorable changes in body composition.

What should you eat after training?

Muscles that are exhausted and not rebuilt after exertion become increasingly smaller and weaker. The body intensifies fat storage in order to create energy reserves. As a result, although the body loses weight, it becomes saggy, soft and wrinkled.

The first meal eaten after training should be rich in carbohydrates with a high glycemic index (rice, fruit, juices, white bread). The second post-workout meal is best composed of products containing an appropriate amount of complete protein (lean meats, cold cuts, fish and dairy products).

In an age of technological progress, when we get little exercise and food is highly processed, rational, healthy eating and regular exercise are very important. Violetta Król from the “Dobry dietetyk” practice wishes everyone a healthy and delicious Christmas and reminds readers that, thanks to her advice, it is possible to eat and lose weight.
