The County Orienteering Championships were held in Kliczków. On September 28, nearly 190 runners aged from 7 to 19 lined up at the start. The medals and diplomas were presented to the best competitors by Edward Spraski, deputy head of the Powiatowe Centrum Edukacji i Kształcenia Kadr in Bolesławiec.
The competition was organized by UKS „Orientpark Osiecznica” in cooperation with Joanna Matejewicz, director of Kliczków Castle. The event received financial support from Powiat Bolesławiecki and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism (as part of the „Sport Wszystkich Dzieci” program).
On the same day, the first of two qualifying events for the World School Orienteering Championships in the Selected group was held near Kliczków.
Several medalists of the Polish Junior Championships lined up at the start, including Bartłomiej Szeliga (Polish runner-up in the so-called middle distance and the current school world runner-up), Adam Sawościanik from Złocieniec (bronze medalist of the Polish Night Orienteering Championships), Polish champion Aleksandra Hornik and one of the most talented young competitors—Polish runner-up Zuzanna Wańczyk from PUKS „Młode Orły” Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki.
These competitors dominated the first of the two qualifying stages in the W2 and M2 categories (the only surprise was Adam Sawościanik’s disqualification). In the W1 category, the first stage was won by Agata Szymoniak, while Jakub Sawościanik won in M1.
The second stage—the classic-distance race—was held the following day near the village of Wilczy Las. The favorites once again did not disappoint. Among those who qualified for the World Championships (April 2013 in Portugal) were three middle-school students from Iwiny: Bartłomiej Szeliga, Marcin Wieczorek and Paulina Tschierschke.
