67 years have passed since the end of World War II, yet the explosive material contained in various types of ammunition has not lost its properties. Every year in Poland, there are a dozen or so accidents in which people who have tampered with found unexploded ordnance and misfires are killed.
The mushroom-picking season is underway. Over the past week, soldiers from the Bolesławiec Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol received 10 reports of unexploded ordnance being found in the forest. The soldiers neutralized 11 artillery shells and 1 Panzerfaust anti-tank grenade launcher.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol warns: if we find an object that looks like unexploded ordnance or a misfire, under no circumstances should we touch it; let us remember where it is and report it to police officers or the forester.
