Seven fire service units, including units from Lubań, Nowogrodziec and Gromadka, are taking part in extinguishing the tenement building fire. At first, it seemed that the fire had been put out. It then turned out that the flames had entered the walls and wooden ceilings.
"If extinguishing it with foam does not work, we will wait until the fire appears on the floors. Then we will direct water through the windows. At this point, there is no other way," says Jerzy Kieler, deputy fire service commander. Firefighters expect the operation to continue until tomorrow.
About 40 people were evacuated from the building. "Everyone was offered alternative accommodation. Six families accepted the offer. The rest will spend the night with family or friends," said Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, who was present at the operation.
Representatives of the City Office are already considering how to find funding to rebuild the tenement building. A major renovation will probably be necessary.
Firefighters are not allowing any residents into the building. The structure may collapse. The cause of the fire is unknown.
