In an article published in May 2011, we wrote about the discontinuation by the prosecutor’s office of proceedings concerning a Bolesławiec resident who had argued with a municipal guard officer in Jelenia Góra.
The article had a positive tone for the former councillor, but contained an incorrect passage about the charges. The editorial team of the Istotne.pl portal apologized to the councillor and published the correction he had sent to the editorial office.
About two months after the publication, the former councillor decided that the correction he had written himself did not satisfy him. He took the matter to court. He wanted a correction published in a different form, the judgment to be made public, an apology, and money to be donated to an institution designated by the court.
During the hearing, he focused on his resentment toward the editorial team for publishing articles on Istotne.pl that, in his opinion, were unfavorable to him. The former councillor spoke about many grievances that had prompted him to take the matter to court. Among other things, he talked about visitor figures, which he claimed would grow for the portal after information about him was published, and emphasized how important and well-known a person he was in Bolesławiec.
When asked whether it was true that many articles promoting the councillor and his activities and building his positive image had appeared on the portal and in the newspaper, he merely replied that “during the first years, perhaps the portal wrote…”.
The former councillor lost to Krzysztof Gwizdała. He appealed the judgment. The court dismissed the appeal. The judgment is final.
