The festival will take place on June 11 and 12. On Saturday, the following groups, among others, will perform on the stage in Bolesławiec’s market square: “Bambusy” from Węgliniec, “Aksel” from Gromadka, “Ta joj” from Wrocław and “Paka Rycha” from Bytom. The evening’s star will be the Roma gypsy band.
On the second day, the festival will move to Gierałtów. Local folk groups will perform there. There will also be a traditional food competition, in which Rural Housewives’ Circles will compete. The event will conclude with a Kresy-style feast.
During the festival, visitors will be able to listen to songs from the Eastern Borderlands, Yugoslavia and Germany. “The Great Kresowiana is intended to help young people learn about their roots,” says Jan Cołokidzi, chairman of the District Council and, at the same time, the festival’s main organizer and originator. But the festival is not only performances by renowned artistic groups. A scientific conference will also be held. Speakers will discuss the significance of the ethnographic melting pot that is Bolesławiec County in shaping culture.
The Youth Cultural Centre is also participating in organizing the festival. An exhibition will be prepared at the YCC, presenting items that served repatriates. “If anyone has souvenirs from their former places of residence at home and would like to lend them to us for the duration of the exhibition, please contact us,” says Ewa Lijewska, director of the YCC in Bolesławiec.
Bolesławiec County is culturally and ethnically diverse. After the Second World War, people arrived here from various parts of Europe. The largest group of resettlers consists of Poles from the former Yugoslavia and the Eastern Borderlands.
The Boleslawiec.org service has become the media patron of the Festival.
