The “Via Fabrilis – a trail of craft traditions” project, implemented by the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec and the Karkonosze Museum in Vrchlabí, won the “Poland Is Beautiful – 7 Wonders of European Funds” competition organized by the Ministry of Regional Development.

As many as 280 projects co-financed by the European Union took part in the competition. Only 19 qualified for the final. The Bolesławiec Museum’s project won in the “Cross-border Tourism” category, defeating two extremely interesting projects: “Following the Witches’ Trail Along the Polish-Czech Border” and “Inauguration of Cross-Border Air Tourism.”

“Via Fabrilis” was the only project from the entire Lower Silesia region to receive recognition in the competition. The statuette was accepted from the Minister of Regional Development Elżbieta Bieńkowska by MC representatives – director Anna Bober-Tubaj and Tadeusz Orawiec. An additional prize for the Museum is a package of promotional activities through which the “Via Fabrilis” project will be promoted nationwide.

The competition aims to promote projects co-financed by European funds that have a positive impact on changes in the region’s landscape and offer an interesting way to spend free time. The Bolesławiec project was recognized above all for its very broad scope of activities and varied offer.

The “Via Fabrilis” Craft Traditions Trail was established along the Vrchlabí–Bolesławiec route. On the Czech side, the trail includes Vrchlabí, Jilemnice, Poniklá, Vysoké n. J. and Paseky n. J., as well as Harrachov; on the Polish side: Bolesławiec, Lwówek Śl., Lubomierz, Wleń, Jelenia Góra and Szklarska Poręba. By viewing museum exhibitions and taking part in demonstrations and workshops, tourists can learn about types of crafts and handicrafts unique to the Karkonosze Mountains, such as glassmaking and weaving, as well as discover the processes used to produce ceramics, Christmas ornaments and nativity scenes.
