Despite the considerable heat, many people came to the school grounds in Dąbrowa on Sunday afternoon. Everyone took part in the Pierogi Festival. In the main competition for the tastiest pierogi, the winners were members of the Housewives’ Association from Jurków. The Housewives’ Association from Ocice came second. The remaining places went to Bolesławice, Golnice, Łaziska and Dąbrowa.

The taste of the pierogi was assessed by a special panel consisting of: Agnieszka Michnej, Józefina Piętka, Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, Jan Cołokidzi, Cezary Przybylski and Ryszard Miziniak. In addition to taste, the appearance and quantity of the prepared dishes were also assessed. In the latter criterion, the women from Jurków outclassed the other five teams, entering as many as 1,500 pierogi in 13 different flavours. All competition participants received prizes and pierogi-shaped medals. In addition, the top three places were awarded commemorative diplomas.

It must be admitted that the festival was a real treat for pierogi lovers. Visitors could try traditional Russian-style pierogi, as well as varieties filled with meat, cabbage and mushrooms, spinach, rhubarb, buckwheat, blueberries and many other fillings. There were also pitas, pećenice and slices of bread spread with lard. In addition to the competition for the tastiest pierogi, folk ensembles performed on stage, while a raffle, games and competitions for children were also held.
