Several days have passed since the election of the new board of the Bolesławiec branch of the Young Democrats Association. Boleslawiec.org learned what the Young Democrats intend to do in the near future and how they set the goals of their activities.
"Our plans are developed through brainstorming. During meetings, we conduct something like a survey among ourselves, asking: what would you like to do for your city, what would you like to change?" says Wojciech Kasprzyk, the new chairman of the Bolesławiec branch. This is how the idea of cleaning up and renovating the area around the former amphitheater on the Bóbr River came about. "We are thinking about putting benches there," explains Marta Fidor, the branch secretary. The young people hope that the city authorities will help them implement the idea. "We would like to receive some support, for example money or materials. We would do the rest ourselves," Fidor explains.
Another idea of the Young Democrats is to organize cemetery-cleaning campaigns. "We want to clean these places regularly, for example once a month," says Wojciech Kasprzyk. Initially, these would be the most neglected and abandoned cemeteries. The Young Democrats want Bolesławiec middle-school students to also participate in the cemetery-cleaning campaign.
In addition to practical activities, the Bolesławiec branch of SMD wants to foster patriotic and civic attitudes. Planned meetings between veterans and students from Bolesławiec schools are intended to serve this purpose.
The Young Democrats have special plans for secondary-school students. "We want to make them aware that people need to take part in elections," says Marta Fidor. To this end, the branch members plan to hold meetings during which they will explain what elections involve and why they are important. The Young Democrats assure that they will not encourage anyone to vote for a particular candidate or party. They only want to make people understand that if someone does not participate in elections, they allow someone else to make decisions on their behalf.
The Young Democrats Association operates in Bolesławiec with 19 members.
