I do not particularly like Szymon Pogoda. This is a column, so I will not pretend otherwise.
Pogoda is a young politician, but he aligned himself with a conservative party in the worst sense of the word: distrustful of change, fond of lecturing people, and convinced that it knows best how others should live.
The MP has now announced that he is giving up his activities in the “Po pierwsze Polska” association. The reason is simple: PiS authorities decided that party members should not be active in additional political associations.
Officially, this is about unity. In practice, it looks more like Jarosław Kaczyński does not want separate power groups to emerge within the party. Especially since Mateusz Morawiecki has been trying to build his own political base for some time.
Pogoda accepted the decision without objection. He wrote that he remains a member of PiS and is ending his activity in the association. In short: the party ordered it, and the MP carried it out.
Pogoda declares that he will work until PiS wins and Przemysław Czarnek becomes prime minister. He is therefore publicly taking one side in the internal struggle within PiS. Not Morawiecki’s side, but Czarnek’s.
And Czarnek is not a symbol of calm, moderate conservatism. He is a politician of sharp disputes, ideological conflict, and constant efforts to point out who is a “true Pole” and who supposedly threatens traditional values. To some, he will seem distinctive. To me, he represents a closed, aggressive conservatism that is completely unsuited to a modern state.
Pogoda could simply have written that he was leaving the association. He could have thanked his colleagues and ended it there. But no, he added Czarnek. The MP from Bolesławiec is loyal to PiS and is showing what future for the party he supports.
The young politician chose very old politics. What a shame.
