During a City Council session held in October last year, the mayor Piotr Roman said that in Bolesławiec, the biggest problem concerning stops and carriers was the bus station. “An abnormal situation has arisen: young people stand in the mud in the square between Łokietka and Zgorzelecka Streets, while 50 metres away there is a station with shelters and bays, but it is empty because private carriers are not allowed to enter. This station belongs to the County authorities, and they should ensure that people can travel around Bolesławiec County in normal conditions. Young people say that the square between Łokietka and Zgorzelecka is Saigon, but I think that in Vietnam the shelters are much better than there,” he stressed.

Stanisław Cempura, president of PKS Bolesławiec, explained that private carriers would not be allowed to enter the station grounds until they signed an agreement with the company. “The lowest fee I offered private carriers was PLN 3.50 for each entry. This would cover, among other things, the costs of repairing the surface and the depreciation of the station building. We pay PLN 5 to enter other PKS stations,” he added.

The mayor approached the Bolesławiec County Board with an offer to purchase the station. “I am responding to the expectations of both carriers and the local community, which wishes to use local transport in decent conditions,” says Piotr Roman. “I am submitting an offer to purchase the site and building of the PKS station on Wesoła Street in Bolesławiec. As the future owner of the PKS station, the Municipal Commune will allow carriers to use the station for a fee not exceeding PLN 1 per entry.

“This is more of a propaganda ploy than reality. Even if both sides agreed to the purchase, it would still be a lengthy process. In this way, the mayor is diverting attention from the problem,” comments County Head Cezary Przybylski. “Piotr Roman should indicate a place where buses could stop. Since carriers want to stop at the PKS station now, the mayor should help negotiate the fee for entering the station grounds.”
