The 12th round of the third-tier volleyball league opened with a match between UKS Tukan Iwiny and SL Salos Nowa Ruda. The encounter promised to be interesting. Both teams are of a similar level. The hosts started the match better – after an effective attack from the middle and a successful block, they took a 2–0 lead. However, the visitors quickly made up the deficit. Both teams played with great determination. There were plenty of interesting rallies, and no ball was considered lost. This state of affairs did not last long, however. At 7–7, the Iwiny players pulled away from their opponents, scoring six points in a row. The home side comfortably held on to its lead, ultimately winning the first set 25–19.
The next set followed an almost identical script. However, several spectacular attacks and alert play at the net allowed our players to take a 19–10 lead. UKS won this set decisively, 25–14.
The players from Nowa Ruda had no intention of giving up without a fight. They eliminated their mistakes, improved their attacking efficiency and performed excellently in defense. The visitors had already built a five-point lead (14–9), and it seemed almost certain that they would win the third set. The home side did not give up, however. The Iwiny players gradually made up the deficit and finally achieved the desired tie at 17–17.
Salos would not give up, pulling three points ahead of the hosts again. That was when Tukan’s coach called a timeout. It proved to be a very good decision, because after a stern reprimand, his players finally woke up. As a result, they scored nine points in a row, winning the set 25–21 and the entire match 3–0 (25–19; 25–14; 25–21).
