After many years of efforts, Bolesławiec will have a Minor Basilica. After analyzing the submitted materials, a Vatican commission gave a positive opinion on the application to confer this title on the church in Bolesławiec.
– This news is a great joy for us and the culmination of many years of efforts to make the Bolesławiec Marian Sanctuary a place of a special bond with Peter of our times – says Rev. Prelate Dr. Andrzej Jarosiewicz, parish priest.
The solemn announcement of the papal decree granting the title of basilica will take place on Sunday, 7 October 2012. The ceremony will be presided over by Spanish Cardinal Antonio Canizares Lovera, Prefect of the Congregation, who will come to Bolesławiec at that time and, on behalf of the Holy Father, formally announce the Minor Basilica.

A minor basilica (basilica minor) is an honorary title conferred by the pope, or acquired through customary law, which is granted to churches distinguished by their historic, liturgical, pilgrimage and pastoral value. A privilege of basilicas is the possibility of obtaining a plenary indulgence when visiting them on appropriate days.
