We were asked to publicize the matter by our Reader. In an email to the editorial office, she wrote:

I am writing to you in connection with the changes to the timetable introduced by Przewozy Regionalne on 11 December. After analyzing this timetable, it is easy to see that PR customers commuting daily to Bolesławiec (to work and school) from Legnica, Chojnów, Osetnica and Okmiany have been deprived of the opportunity to reach their workplaces or schools punctually by 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. The service from Legnica (departing at 6:37 a.m.) to Bolesławiec (arriving at approximately 7:20 a.m.) has been discontinued.

After the draft timetable was made available to passengers, we immediately took action. We collected a significant number of signatures for a petition against discontinuing this service, which was sent to the Marshal’s Office on behalf of the passengers. A letter was also sent, describing the problem in great detail. In response, a representative of the Marshal’s Office wrote: “I would like to inform you that, due to the procedure and deadlines for carriers to submit train routes to the infrastructure manager PKP, it is not possible to introduce the proposed changes to the train timetable effective from 11 December 2011. I would also like to inform you that the purpose of the changes to the timetable concerning the service in question is to ensure that passengers can reach Legnica [podkreślenie pochodzi od Czytelniczki – przyp. red.] by 8:00 a.m.”

This approach by the PKP authorities discriminates against passengers from smaller towns who work and have to reach their workplaces and schools by 8:00 a.m. I cannot understand how the person who prepared this timetable failed to notice this. Nowadays, when work is so difficult to find and people have to travel such distances to earn a living, they are being deprived of the opportunity to commute! Students from Bolesławiec schools who travel to school daily by the Legnica–Bolesławiec train also have no chance of arriving punctually by 8:00 a.m.

“The service in question has not been discontinued. Due to modernization work on line no. 275 Wrocław–Legnica—at the request of the infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe—it became necessary to change the train’s departure time from Wrocław from 5:52 to 6:09,” explains Agnieszka Zakęś, deputy head of the Infrastructure Department of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. “The possibility of launching a service that would enable residents of smaller towns commuting to Bolesławiec to arrive at work or school on time is currently being considered. For organizational and procedural reasons, it was not possible to launch it when the new train timetable was introduced,” she adds.
