At Forum cinema, audiences will be able to see the film that drew queues of moviegoers in Berlin and Wrocław during the two most important festivals. “Pina” is a feature-length dance film made in 3D, featuring the Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble Pina Bausch, devoted to the fascinating and unique work of the outstanding choreographer who died in summer 2009. The work is a tribute to Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders.
The director invites viewers to take part in a sensual journey – through dazzling imagery into an unknown dimension: onto the stage of the legendary theatre and into the streets and surroundings of Wuppertal, which for more than 35 years was Pina Bausch’s home and place of creative work. The film consists of selected choreographies from performances, as well as solo performances recorded in spring 2010 in 3D and personal recollections from members of the Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble, who use dance to tell the story of their mentor’s precise, critical and at the same time loving gaze.
The possibilities and expressive means of digital 3D technology enabled the director to transfer to the screen the suggestiveness of the imagery and the expressive power of Pina Bausch’s innovative dance theatre. Along with modern cinematographic technology, a previously inaccessible dimension of spatiality entered the film’s universe. A dimension in which movement and dance condition each other, a dimension that viewers can explore through their own senses.
The film became a major event at this year’s festivals in Berlin and Nowe Horyzonty in Wrocław, and is also Germany’s Oscar submission. In Bolesławiec, it will be screened for one week starting on 28 October. Tickets can be reserved on the Forum cinema website.
