The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, at around 3:25 p.m. in Legnica. While on duty, officers noticed a Volkswagen Golf whose driver accelerated sharply after turning onto Koskowicka Street.
The woman’s behavior aroused the officers’ suspicions. The police decided to check why the driver had made such a maneuver and stopped the car for a roadside inspection in a safe place—on Sikorskiego Street.
Nearly 2‰ of alcohol and a child in the car
A 30-year-old resident of Legnica was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen. A breathalyzer test showed that the woman had nearly 2‰ of alcohol in her system.
During the inspection, police officers also established that the intoxicated driver was transporting a child in the car. Thus, her irresponsible decision posed a danger not only to herself and other road users, but also to the young passenger, who was entirely dependent on the person driving the vehicle.
The 30-year-old woman faces up to 3 years in prison
The woman will be held responsible for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. This offense carries a sentence of up to 3 years in prison.
Police remind drivers that alcohol weakens concentration, impairs assessment of the situation on the road and lengthens reaction time. Even a short journey after drinking alcohol can lead to tragic consequences.
Situations in which intoxicated drivers transport children are particularly dangerous. The safety of the youngest depends on adults’ responsibility, so every decision to drive after drinking alcohol may put their health and lives at risk.
Have you been drinking alcohol? Don’t get behind the wheel. No journey is worth risking your health or life.
