Police officers from the Traffic Department of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters carried out checks as part of the provincial “Speed” campaign. The operation took place on Tuesday, October 20, and focused on checking whether drivers were complying with the applicable speed limits.
During the checks, officers identified 29 cases of exceeding the speed limit.
The highest penalty was issued to a 72-year-old Bolesławiec resident. The man was driving at 94 km/h in a built-up area, even though the applicable limit there was 50 km/h. He was fined PLN 1,000.
Three drivers received PLN 800 fines
Police officers also issued three PLN 800 fines. They went to drivers who had also significantly exceeded the permitted speed in a built-up area.
Among those fined was a 43-year-old Czech citizen who was driving at 88 km/h. The same fine was issued to a 21-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County, who was driving at 86 km/h, and to a 35-year-old Bolesławiec resident, who was driving at 84 km/h.
In all these cases, the applicable limit was 50 km/h.
Police warn about autumn conditions
Officers remind drivers that road conditions become increasingly difficult in autumn. Shorter days, darkness falling earlier, rainfall, moisture and leaves lying on the road can make the surface slippery and significantly increase braking distance.
Police appeal to drivers to observe speed limits and adjust their speed to the road conditions, their own abilities and the current traffic situation.
Excessive speed reduces reaction time and can increase the consequences of a potential collision. Therefore, even on a familiar route, it is worth remaining cautious and taking your foot off the accelerator.
